Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act Review
An Industry Framework
The Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act sets out the restrictions on sanitary plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying work. The statutory review of the Act was completed in March 2021, eight years overdue.
Following the review, MBIE made several proposed changes, including the removal of exemptions for sanitary plumbing work and the development of a pathway to self-certification for plumbers and drainlayers.
A draft Bill was expected to be introduced in early 2022 but this has not yet happened.
Master Plumbers acts in the interests of the plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying industry, which relies on the PGD Act to perform required services. It is imperative that changes to this Act are introduced promptly and with appropriate consideration.
