New apprentice qualifications are coming - attend the roadshow to learn more
21 June 2024
From January 2025 apprentice training for plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers (PGD) is changing to deliver a better experience for thousands of apprentices across New Zealand.
This work has been led by the Waihanga Ara Rau PGD Strategic Reference Group. It aims to improve apprentice training to make it faster and more efficient, while still delivering competent, industry-ready tradespeople.
The changes will deliver a more flexible training model and a better learning environment for apprentices. There is a greater emphasis on workplace training and assessment, and apprentices are required to obtain a ‘level of performance’ in the area where they choose to specialise.
Other initiatives aim to make block course learning more effective with both teaching and assessment, and ensure apprentices complete their training within five years.
Waihanga Ara Rau workforce development council is putting on a free nationwide roadshow. You'll learn about the new model and what the changes to the Level 4 apprentice qualifications may mean for you and your business.
You don’t have to be a Master Plumbers member to attend.
Events are taking place in main centres on the following dates, all starting at 4.30pm:
2 July – Wellington
23 July – Auckland
24 July – Dunedin
30 July – Hamilton
31 July – Christchurch
